HELLO PARISHIONERS - I'm back! And happy to be so. Thanks for all your kindness to our supply clergy, none of whom have run fleeing from parish ministry, I'm happy to say. This Sunday, we start up our "program year," with Sunday school, nursery, classes (see below) - all that good stuff, and lots of it. Please take a moment to look at the announcements below, and add to your calendars anything that might be of interest. Have a good weekend, and see you Sunday! -Astrid
SAVE THE DATE: SEPTEMBER 21 PARISH PICNIC AND PICTORIAL DIRECTORY ROUND-UP AT THE FREEMANS Later this month we will have a welcome-back picnic around the corner (on the river!) at the Freemans' home. You can sign up to help HERE or on the sign-up sheet in the undercroft. Someone will also be taking pictures at that event for our fall directory (with names & faces matched this year), so please plan to be there if you can.

NEWCOMER CLASS SEPTEMBER 20, 10 AM - NOON New to St. Nick's? This class will introduce you to the history and theology of the Episcopal Church, and also to fellow newcomers to St. Nick's. IF YOU NEED CHILDCARE, let Astrid or Cara know right away and we will gladly provide that.
BOOK GROUP FIRST BOOK AVAILABLE THIS SUNDAY - NOTE CHANGE NewIf you've spent the summer slogging through "Zealot" by Reza Aslan, that's great! However, for our first book, we are going to dip into the slightly shorter "Prayer Journal" by Flannery O'Connor (for October), followed by "Zealot" (November). Finally, dovetailing with our fall adult ed series, we'll conclude with "The Good Funeral" by Tom Lynch and Tom Long (December). The FIRST BOOK WILL BE AVAILABLE TO BUY this Sunday in church. Listen at announcements for more details.
ADULT ED FALL SERIES, title forthcoming. This fall, once a month over three Sundays, we will follow nature's lead and explore themes of death and dying, starting with a practical class on preparing wills, establishing preferences for end-of-life, etc (Oct 12). In November we will look in depth at the topic of "green" burials (November 9), and finally, in December, we will learn about the history and theology of the burial liturgy in the Book of Common Prayer (December 14). The first two classes will feature guest speakers, the third will be led by Astrid. Listen in future weeks for more details!
