COOKIE WALK FOR LOVE INC. DROP OFF COOKIES TODAY OR COME OUT & BUY COOKIES TOMORROW!
LOVE INC, a local and ecumenical outreach organization to people in need, is holding their 4th annual Cookie Walk TOMORROW (SATURDAY) at the Poughkeepsie Unityed Methodist Church (map here). "Sweets for your Sweetheart!" Those who signed up for cookies can drop them off at the church any time on Friday. Wherever you set them, upstairs or down, we'll find them. BY-LAW CHANGE: PLEASE PLAN TO VOTE AFTER CHURCH THIS SUNDAY
As discussed at the annual meeting, we are proposing a change to our bylaws that would allow for a second warden. Please pick up a hard copy of the proposed change in church on Sunday, and email Astrid or Stacey Mesler (smesler@gmail.com) if you have any questions. We will be voting on the change as a parish after church this Sunday. If you want to read through the bylaw before then, you can find it here.
VESTRY MEETING THIS SUNDAY
The vestry meets Sunday at 11:30 am. Vestry, look for agendas and last month's minutes in your inboxes. Vestry minutes and current financial reports are always posted on the bulletin board downstairs for anyone to see.
SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER IS COMING UP! FEBRUARY 21 - HELP NEEDED
Lent is fast approaching, and as a final hurrah before the season of abstinence, we will eat our fill of yummy pancakes! This year's supper, like last year, will be at the New Hamburg Firehouse. If you can help out, please email Angelo at michaelangelo54@gmail.com, or sign up in the undercroft on Sunday.
ASH WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 22 AT 7 PM - MARK YOUR CALENDAR
Our Ash Wednesday service is in just under two weeks. Come receive your ashes to start off the season of Lent. All are welcome - and all ages.
THIS SUNDAY: EXPERIENCED WITH NEEDLEPOINT (OR WANT TO BE)? LIKE TO SEE BETTER KNEELERS AT THE ALTAR RAIL?
Then stay after church THIS SUNDAY for a brief check-in. Beth Devine will show us some examples of some needlepoint kneelers from our neighbors at Zion and Trinity church, and we'll discuss whether we might like to work (individually and/or jointly) toward making kneelers for St. Nick's. Listen at announcements for more information.
ADULT EDUCATION FOR LENT: HYMNS FOR LENT AND HOLY WEEK
Starting on Sunday, February 26, Bob Dresser, Astrid, and Gregory will do a 5-part series on hymns - their history, composition and structure, content. Bob and Astrid will present some favorite hymns (with an emphasis on Lent and Holy Week), and Greg will talk to us about the "anatomy" of a hymn: how do hymns come together? Who chooses what tune goes with what words? Why do some hymns have more than one tune? When and why do hymns get "modernized?" Each class will run after the 10 am service, from 11:15 - 11:45.
WEDNESDAY STITCHING GROUP
The Wednesday stitching group meets every week from 1-3 in the undercroft. For more details, contact Edie Palm at palmacre@aol.com or 298-4806, or just drop in any time.
KIDS' READING GROUP: HELP US SPREAD THE WORD
Our reading group for 3rd and 4th graders is in full swing, and it takes place every Tuesday from 4:15 - 5:15 pm. This is a collaboration with Grinnell library, funded by a grant we received from the Mid-Hudson region of the diocese. Spread the word to friends and neighbors, and pick up some flyers this Sunday in church to give to people who might be interested. You can also find a copy of that flyer on our website: stnicholasnewhamburg.org.
LOOKING AHEAD: BISHOP'S CONSECRATION MARCH 10
Andy Dietsche's consecration as our new bishop will be on Saturday, March 10 at 10:30 am at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC. Listen for more details this Sunday at announcements.
