AFTER BOTH SERVICES THIS SUNDAY
We need forty people to hang around after our services today to vote in our new by-laws in preparation for becoming a legally incorporated parish. Please plan to stay and help us get the votes we need!
SAVE THE D ATE: SEPTEMBER 21 PARISH PICNIC AND PICTORIAL DIRECTORY ROUND-UP
In just over a week is our fall welcome back picnic, and it's just around the corner at the Freeman's home (on the river!). You can sign up HERE to bring something, or on the sign-up sheet in the undercroft. Someone will also be taking pictures at this event for our fall directory (with names and faces matched this year), so please plan to be there if you can.
SUNDAY SCHOOL AND NURSERY ARE BACK!
Kids ages 4-12 are welcome to our Sunday school class downstairs in the undercroft from 10 - 10:30. The kids join us at the peace. The nursery runs throughout the 10 am service.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR READ-A-THONERS!
Our read-a-thon kids raised over $1200 to support school scholarships for children in Darbonne Haiti!! Great job! Top "earners" were Livia Johnson and Oliver Graves Abe. All participants include: Finn and Josie VanderStuyf, Owin and Elizabeth Cuite, Aiden and Sofia Gauzza, Inigo Wood, Julie, Katie and Lily Stasaitis, Samantha Salisbury, and Elizabeth Ormistad.
NEWCOMER CLASS SEPTEMBER 20, 10:30 AM - NOON
New(ish) to St. Nick's and/or just want to learn more about the Episcopal tradition? Join us for a brief newcomer gathering next Saturday. If interested, please contact Mother Storm so she knows you're planning to attend.
SILENT AUCTION TICKETS
Buy them ASAP! This event is a real community highlight, AND it's one of our important sources of fundraising income for our annual budget. Have fun and also support St. Nick's! Tickets are $30, and you can buy them from Joe Haubrich or Jen Urciuoli in church.
BOOK GROUP (OCTOBER 1): MORE BOOKS AVAILABLE THIS SUNDAY
Our first book is Flannery O'Connor's Prayer Journal, a short (40 pages!) series of prayers by this important American writer. Read what you can, and come on Weds October 1, 7 pm at the church.
ADULT EDUCATION FALL SERIES
This fall we'll be exploring issues around "dying well." Sunday October 12 "Dying Organized": living wills, proxies, conversations with families - everything you need to know to prepare for (and make easier) the inevitable. November 9 "Dying Green?": An introduction to the ecologically friendly burial and cremation movement by author and professor (SUNY New Paltz) Suzanne Kelly. December 12 "Dying Beautifully": A history and look at the burial service in the Book of Common Prayer, hands down the most beautiful there is. Led by Astrid.
