THIS SUNDAY AT ST. NICK'S
Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost
September 1, 2019
Services are at 9am & 10am
From the Rector:
Thank you!
Dear St. Nick's community-
My heart is full to bursting as I look around my office and see the gifts you have given me for the 10th anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood. I never imagined you would go this far in honoring me -- from the framed photo collage to the immaculate stole, from the sheet cake to the perfect outdoor reception in purple, from the music to the magnificent flower arrangements - sublime! I want you to know and understand how very grateful I am for each one of you and all that you did to make this past weekend so special. I asked for a list of all who gave so that I could write thank you notes, but Liz Pavelka, rather conveniently, tells me that such a list does not exist! And so this blanket "thank you" will have to suffice.
It is a joy and a privilege to be your rector. Irenaeus, the early church father and apologist, said, "The glory of God is a human being fully alive." Well, I am fully alive here at St. Nick's and in the Hudson Valley! Thank you for all you do to make that possible -- and for letting me be me.
With love, and in gratitude,
Mtr. Leigh
PS. I listened to this song the whole time I wrote this.
THE ALTAR FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Al Blodgett by Sue Blodgett.
ATTENTION ALL SUNDAY PARTICIPANTS There are many open positons for the 10am service this Sunday. If you are interested in stepping into an open role please contact the office at stnicholasnewhamburg@gmail.com
Next Sunday is Sundae Sunday!
Please plan to be here on September 8th for thekick-off of Sunday School (during the 10am service), the Blessing of the Backpacks and Briefcases (also during the 10am service) and the closing celebration of our Summer Read-a-thon (during coffee hour). We will celebrate with our traditional ice cream sundae bar!
SUNDAY SCHOOL 2019 - 2020
We start a new Sunday School curriculum this fall: StorymakersNYC, a curriculum that comes out of Calvary-St. George's in Manhattan. Storymakers nurtures creativity and imagination, and we are excited to bring this to our children this fall. For more information about StorymakersNYC, please click the image above.
Beginning this week...
Groundhog Office Hours
On Wednesdays this fall, starting September 4, Mtr. Leigh will be available for Groundhog Office Hours from 10a to 12p at the Groundhog Coffee Shop in the Village: 2703 W Main St, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. There is no agenda for these meetings: it's simply a chance to talk informally about anything you want.
Update Your Photo for the Parish Directory on Sundays in September
We are working on an update of the parish directory. Many of you need new photos taken - either because your children have aged, or the quality of the photos we have could be a bit better, or because you are new to this parish (exciting!). Mtr. Leigh will have her camera with her on all the Sundays in September for photo-ops. If there's a certain Sunday you definitely want your photo taken, please let us know by emailing the office.
Church Fair Planning Meeting: September 4th, 7:30p
The St. Nick's Church Fair will be Saturday, November 23rd. If you'd like to get involved, please plan to attend this organizational planning meeting on Wednesday, September 4th at 7:30pm. Many thanks to Eileen Doherty and Joan Freeman for co-chairing this event this year.
Parish Picnic at the Freemans: September 29th
Mark your calendar now for the return of a much beloved fellowship event in the Freemans' backyard. This is a relaxed potluck-style picnic that allows folks an opportunity to chat outside church and enjoy a spectacular view of the Hudson. This is also an opportune day to invite a friend to church. You won't want to miss it. Many thanks to Greg and Joan for hosting us another year.
FOYER DINNER GROUPS Brochures and sign up sheet for our parish dinner groups are located in the Narthex. Hurry and sign up! Meals begin in September!
ZION FOOD PANTRY NEEDS DONATIONS Help your neighbor in need! It’s as easy as buying an extra box of cereal, peanut butter etc. while you’re already at the store. Bring your donations anytime during the week or to church on Sunday.
NURSERY AVAILABLE During the summer months at the 10am service. Our nursery worker, Kim Steuber, will be downstairs at 9:30a in our "pop up" nursery in the office for childcare during the 10am service.
