                      THIS SUNDAY AT ST. NICK'S
TWENTY FIRST SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
October 9, 2016
                            Services are at 9am & 10am
STEWARDSHIP 2016-17

During October we ask ourselves to provide the resources to sustain St. Nick’s for another year. We call this “annual stewardship” because we regard ourselves as caretakers of this parish we call our spiritual home. Though we give to help cover the costs of maintaining the church, it is primarily out of gratitude that we pledge our resources to this place. We are thankful that it came into our lives in the first place, that it continues to feed our spirits, that it educates our children in the knowledge and faith of Jesus Christ, that it offers us close companionship, and that it provides us opportunities to worship God, grow in our faith, and reach out to others.

So this month we consider our role in helping support the ongoing financial demands on the parish. After prayerful consideration, we pledge an amount that we feel significantly reflects our gratitude for the existence and ministries of the parish. During October, Sunday bulletins will include leaflets describing this year’s stewardship program. At worship on the next three Sundays parishioners will attest to the role that St. Nick’s plays in their lives. On Sunday, October 30, you will receive a new parish directory with a pledge card and envelop, and on November 6 we will bless the 2017 pledges at our ingathering Sunday.

The Stewardship Committee: Paul Curran, Greg Freeman, Melanie Hexel, Polly Myhrum, and The Rev. Peter Sipple

ADULT ED SERIES: WHAT PEOPLE DO
Does work make us happy, and is it supposed to?
What is the purpose of our work: is it for ourselves or for others?
Does our Christian faith inform our work?
Four member of our parish will discuss what they do professionally and will respond to questions like these and will explore the answers together. These talks facilitated by Pastor Fred Jackson will take place in the church following the 10am worship service on October 16th and 23rd.  Please plan to join us for these thought provoking conversations.

NOTE TO THE PARISH:
As many of you are aware Katie and Troy Graves-Abe will be transitioning to a new home in Maryland in the near future. Katie is a current Vestry member and at some time (hopefully not very soon) will step down from that position. At the Wednesday meeting, the remaining members of the Vestry voted to appoint Jack Devine to fill out Katie’s Vestry term, effective whenever Katie needs to step away. We are very grateful to both Katie and Jack for their willingness to assist us during these transitionary months.
