THIS SUNDAY AT ST. NICK'S
Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost
October 7, 2018
Services are at 9am & 10am

HELLO PARISHIONERS - Stewardship season is here!! Those of you that pledged last year should have received a letter with a pledge card recently. If you pledged last year but haven't gotten a letter and pledge card you can contact the office at stnicholasnewhamburg@gmail.com and we can get one to you right away. We would like to thank all those who have already returned their cards. To date, we have 12 pledges totaling $40,972.00. Pledge packets a speakers to come!

From the Rector - Congratulations!

As I type this, the wonderful craftsmen from Interstate Laminates are installing our new countertops. We still have some finishing touches to make, but this feels like the last big step in the undercroft renovation. I congratulate you for meeting (and exceeding!) your capital campaign goals - much of which was done before I even arrived. Great job! Because of you, we have a gleaming new space that is efficient, clean, and functional, and I am proud to show it off! Thank you to all, especially our warden, Greg Freeman, who have brought this most recent campaign goal to reality.

There are a few upcoming events you should know about, a couple of which will showcase our new and improved space!

Saturday, October 27th - our Rebuilding Together workday.
We have partnered with Rebuilding Together Dutchess to improve the home of an 89-year-old neighbor in Fishkill. We will do minor repairs on the home, such as installing grab bars and painting - essentially helping this person to age in place. The commitment is 8a to 4p, but we may be able to finish sooner, and Rebuilding Together has assigned us a project manager who will help us complete the project. We need people to commit and to sign up, and we are limited to 15 volunteers. You can sign up here: http://rebuildingtogether.civicore.com/volunteerapp/index.cfm?affiliate_id=3. If you can't help with the home repairs but want to help in another way, we need people to be on a food team. To volunteer to help with food, please email Deb Evans at evans1913@aol.com. Thanks to Deb for heading up this effort!

Saturday, November 17th - 9a to 4p - St. Nick's Church Fair. The church fair is back again, this time with a Chili Cook Off, and a Christmas Shoppe! The Chili Cookoff will begin at 11a, and we need cooks to bring their best recipe to be judged in this spicy fundraiser. You can also enter a drawing to win one of my cakes at the bake sale! And finally, the ever popular "Trash & Treasure" returns upstairs. Thanks to Eileen Doherty for organizing the church fair this year. If you'd like to enter your famous chili in the cook off, please email the church office at stnicholasnewhamburg@gmail.com.

Sunday, December 2nd - 4p - Advent Evensong and Open House. Welcome the season of Advent with Evensong and an organ demonstration by Daniel Fannon, our organist and choirmaster. We will invite the hamlet to join us for this special service and hope they will join us for an open house reception to show off the finished undercroft. Please save the date!

That's about it for now. What a joy it is to be your rector! I'm excited for all the fall holds, and I give thanks to God for our parish and the ministry we will do together.

In Christ,
Mother Leigh
