Hello Parishioners! Hope you can all be here this Sunday, when we'll pass out our pictorial directories, 2015 budgets, pledge cards, and talk about why (and how) we give to St. Nick's. This is important information for every member of our parish to hear and digest each year, plus we actually try to make it fun and spiritually meaningful, as it should be. Please be here if you can to celebrate this final Sunday of Stewardship Month! Meantime, have a good weekend, and see you Sunday - Astrid
NEW COFFEE AT COFFEE HOUR You spoke up and we listened! The vestry decided at its last meeting to upgrade our coffee. Starting Sunday, we will be enjoying Haitian fair-trade coffee that tastes delicious AND helps support the Friends of Darbonne ministry.
OCTOBER IS STEWARDSHIP MONTH
October is the month we talk about financial stewardship of St. Nick's. Here are some remaining dates you may wish to know:
October 26 - Stewardship Sunday, when we receive pledge cards, pictorial directories, and hear the stewardship sermon. Also: optional 20-minute stewardship presentation after church by Greg Freeman and the stewardship committee, with time for Q&A. Find out where our money goes and why it goes there. And ask questions!
November 2- Pledge Ingathering Sunday. Bring your completed pledge cards back to church to place in the offering plate.
THANKSGIVING COINS TO BRING TO CHURCH ON NOVEMBER 2 Remember to bring to church the coins you received in the mail last week, with at least on thanksgiving written on the back. We will be reading these throughout the year during the "thanksgiving" section of the prayers of the people. Extra coins will be available in church this Sunday and next in case you misplaced yours.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN SURVEYS Should have arrived in your mailbox (snail mail or email) last week. Please take some time to read and complete those - we are looking for nothing less than 100% participation! If you didn't receive a survey, please email Cara or Astrid right away.
CHOIR REHEARSALS FOR ADVENT & CHRISTMAS SERVICES START NEXT WEEK! Rehearsals will begin for our choir to sing for the Advent service of Lessons and Carols on December 14th during our regular service time, and then to sing again for the Christmas eve service at 5 pm. We enjoy having new voices join us, so should you be interested in singing for this season, please speak with Susan, our organist, after church, or email her at [email protected]. We have 5-6 rehearsals to prepare our anthems, and encourage attendance at all or most of the rehearsals. The rehearsal schedule is as follows, with most occurring after church:
Sunday November 2nd, 11-12:15
No rehearsal November 9
Sunday November 16, 11-12:15
Sunday November 23, 11-12:15
Sunday November 30, 11-12:15
Saturday December 13, 9-10 am
NEXT BOOK GROUP COMING UP WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 5 "ZEALOT" BY REZA ASLAN quick We have one more book to purchase in the back of the church, as well as a copy you can borrow (also in the back of the church). Read what you can and come discuss this widely read, recent, interesting, and (to some) controversial book! Weds November 5, 7 - 8:30 pm.
COFFEE HOUR: LOOKING FOR HOSTS We need a few more hosts to get us through the month of November. You can sign up HERE online or on the bulletin board in the undercroft.
ALL SAINTS' DAY LIST OF THE DECEASED All Saints' Day is November 2, just three weeks away. Write your loved ones names on the clip board in the back of the church (also on the bulletin board in the undercroft) OR send your names to Cara. The list will be read aloud at both services on All Saints' Sunday.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR A TREASURER Our faithful, beloved Larry Johnson is retiring from his post as treasurer, and we are now looking for someone to step into this role, starting in January. This is a very important ministry, but also manageable. Please feel free to talk to Astrid if you want more information about what it involves before you consider taking it on.
THE "EVERYTHING ROTA" The rota through November is available HERE and on our website.
