CHOIR REHEARSALS FOR ADVENT & CHRISTMAS SERVICES START SOON! Rehearsals will begin for our choir to sing for the Advent service of Lessons and Carols on December 14th during our regular service time, and then to sing again for the Christmas eve service at 5 pm. We enjoy having new voices join us, so should you be interested in singing for this season, please speak with Susan, our organist, after church, or email her at [email protected]. We have 5-6 rehearsals to prepare our anthems, and encourage attendance at all or most of the rehearsals. The rehearsal schedule is as follows, with most occurring after church:
Sunday November 2nd, 11-12:15
No rehearsal November 9
Sunday November 16, 11-12:15
Sunday November 23, 11-12:15
Sunday November 30, 11-12:15
Saturday December 13, 9-10 am
OCTOBER IS STEWARDSHIP MONTH
October is the month we talk about financial stewardship of St. Nick's. Here are some dates you may wish to know:
October 19, & 26 - parishioners share their thoughts on stewardship (one per service) at the 9 & 10 am service
October 19 & 26 - optional 20-minute stewardship presentation after church by Greg Freeman and the stewardship committee, with time for Q&A. Find out where our money goes and why it goes there. And ask questions!
October 26 - Stewardship Sunday, when we receive pledge cards, pictorial directories, and hear the stewardship sermon.
November 2- Pledge Ingathering Sunday. Bring your completed pledge cards back to church to place in the offering plate.
LOVE INC LUNCHEON NOVEMBER 1 Mid-Hudson Love INC presents "An Afternoon Luncheon" on November 1, 12 - 3:00 pm at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. Enjoy a generous buffet and learn about: the prevalence of poverty in our towns, how Love INC partners are responding, Love INC's role and direction, and how YOU can help! Reserve a seat by October 20for $25.00. Talk to Liz or email her at [email protected].
OUTREACH MEETING THIS SUNDAY AFTER CHURCH The outreach committee meets every month to talk about various parish-wide outreach projects (such as the turkey and Christmas gift drives, children's projects), as well as ways we can help parishioners in need (those needing rides to church, Communion at home, cards of encouragement). We would LOVE your help and participation, even if you can only drop in occasionally or be "on call." Meetings are organized by Liz Pavelka, at [email protected].
ALSO AFTER CHURCH THIS SUNDAY: A 20-MINUTE OVERVIEW OF OUR BUDGET For those interested in a quick glance at our 2015 budget, with time for questions, please hang around after church for a short slideshow on the whys and hows of what we bring in and spend.
ALL SAINTS' DAY LIST OF THE DECEASED All Saints' Day is November 2, just three weeks away. Write your loved ones names on the clip board in the back of the church (also on the bulletin board in the undercroft) OR send your names to Cara. The list will be read aloud at both services on All Saints' Sunday.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR A TREASURER Our faithful, beloved Larry Johnson is retiring from his post as treasurer, and we are now looking for someone to step into this role, starting in January. This is a very important ministry, but also manageable. Please feel free to talk to Astrid if you want more information about what it involves before you consider taking it on.
THE "EVERYTHING ROTA" The rota through November is available HEREand on our website.
