THIS SUNDAY AT ST. NICK'S November 9, 2014Hello Parishioners - a big thank-you to everyone who brought your pledge cards back to church last Sunday. As always, we had a wonderful showing of support, already in the first week! Remember you can bring your cards in any Sunday, or mail them into the church.
DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING AT ST. NICK'S TONIGHT! That's right! We will be hosting a screening of the film A Will For the Woods, one man's quest for a truly green burial. Homemade chili will be served, bring your own beverage (and maybe a pillow to make the pews more comfortable). Suggested donation $10. Spread the word - all are welcome! 6:30 - 8:30 pm, childcare still available - just email Astrid to let her know you need it.
ADULT ED THIS SUNDAY Not to belabor the topic of green burial! but ... we have a guest speaker joining us this Sunday after the 10 am service to talk to us about her forthcoming book, The Greening of Death, and her efforts to establish a green cemeteries in the Hudson Valley. Grab coffee downstairs and then listen to her share her expertise on this important subject.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN SURVEYS are due November 10, and we are looking for nothing less than 100% participation!! If you didn't receive a survey, please email Astrid right away.
STILL HAVE YOUR "THANKSGIVING COINS" ? We should have lots more of those hanging on the walls in the church, so bring yours (or write one from the extra pile in the back of the church) this Sunday! We will be reading these throughout the year during the "thanksgiving" section of the prayers of the people. Listen for more at announcements.
CHILI FEST AND CRAFT FAIR NOVEMBER 22 It's time to sign up to bring chili to our popular annual chili-fest and craft fair fundraiser! Sign up sheets are in the back of the church and the undercroft. You can also bring baked goods, especially pies, our biggest seller. For more information, contact the event's coordinators, Mary Hornbeck at grammiehornbeck@gmail.com or Evelyn Conners at evelyn.conners@gmail.com. Meantime, save the date and plan to be there!
CHOIR REHEARSALS FOR ADVENT & CHRISTMAS SERVICES Rehearsals resume next Sunday, November 16. The choir will sing at the Advent service of Lessons and Carols on December 14th during our regular service time, and then again for the Christmas eve service at 5 pm. We enjoy having new voices join us, so should you be interested in singing for this season, please speak with Susan, our organist, after church, or email her at susanmacnish@yahoo.com. We have 5-6 rehearsals to prepare our anthems, and encourage attendance at all or most of the rehearsals
WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN ADMIN ASST. Our very skilled and faithful Cara will be stepping down as Office Manager at the end of this year to make time for other commitments, and we are now in the process of searching for an administrative assistant to replace her. If you know someone who might be interested (bearing in mind we aren't permitted to hire parishioners), please pass along this job description. The position is 10 hrs/week at $15/hour, to begin as soon as possible.
NEW COFFEE AT COFFEE HOUR You spoke up and we listened! The vestry decided at its last meeting to upgrade our coffee. We will now be enjoying Haitian fair-trade coffee that tastes delicious AND helps support the Friends of Darbonne ministry.
LOOKING FOR A TREASURER We are looking for a volunteer treasurer to work with our bookkeeper and finance committee. The treasurer reviews the monthly finance reports, makes recommendations to the vestry along with the finance committee, and, as needed, interacts with the priest and bookkeeper to ensure our accounting procedures and budget are on track. It's a reasonable commitment, and if you simply want to find out more about it, please contact Astrid or Paul Curran (paul.curran@bqenergy.com).
THE "EVERYTHING ROTA" The rota through November is available HERE and on our website.
