Hello Parishioners - Hope everyone had/is having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. This Sunday is Advent 1, the beginning of the church's new year, and typically a quiet, slower day ... a welcome respite from the busy holiday. For those yet to travel home, please be safe, and we'll see you on Sunday! Astrid
KIDS ADVENT WREATHS THIS SUNDAY The kids will be making paper Advent wreaths in Sunday school this week to help learn about and celebrate the season of Advent. Thank you to Debbie Evans, Maria and Grace Wainwright, for helping lead this project!
THANK YOU to all those who helped make last weekend's craft fair such a success, especially Mary Hornbeck and Evelyn Conners for all their hard work. We brought in over $1500 in crafts, trash & treasure, and baked goods. Good job!
FEAST OF ST. NICHOLAS DECEMBER 7 In just a over a week we'll celebrate our annual Feast of St. Nick, with a visit from St. Nick himself! After the 10 am service that day, we'll be having a "KIDS AND COMMUNION" class at which Mo. Storm will lead the kids in a short kid-friendly discussion on the meaning of Communion and how we receive in the Episcopal Church.
BAPTISM TOMORROW (SATURDAY) AT THE CHURCH Tomorrow at 11 am (Saturday morning), we will baptize Beverly Hexel, newest granddaughter of Melanie Hexel, niece of Jen and Matt Urciuoli, and daughter of Jeff and Amanda Hexel. Baptism in our tradition is always a public rite, open to the whole parish, so everyone is welcome.
DECEMBER BOOK GROUP - CHANGE IN PLANS Our December 3 book group will not be taking place; instead, Astrid and Kristin (director of Straub/Catalano Funeral Home in Wappingers) will talk together after church on January 18 about the book ("The Good Funeral") and their similar experiences with helping people plan a meaningful death for their loved ones (and selves). You do not need to read the book to enjoy the discussion (and debate), but for those still interested, the book is available for sale in the narthex of the church. NOTE: THIS CLASS WILL REPLACE BOTH THE DEC 3 BOOK GROUP AND DEC 14 ADULT ED.
NEW COFFEE HOUR SIGN-UP SHEET The sign-up sheet for coffee hours through December 21 is HERE, and you can also sign up in the undercroft. The coffee is already made for you - all you have to do is bring some snacks (and you can keep it simple as you like).
CHOIR REHEARSALS FOR ADVENT & CHRISTMAS SERVICES continue this Sunday. The choir will sing at the Advent service of Lessons and Carols on December 14th during our regular service time, and then again for the Christmas eve service at 5 pm.
OUR NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT STARTS NEXT WEEK Our new administrator, Dana Rowinski, begins work with us this week. Her bio and office hours will be published shortly after she starts.
FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING NEXT TUESDAY EVENING AT 7 PM The finance committee meets monthly to review the previous month's budget and discuss all other matters related to our church's finances.
STILL LOOKING FOR MORE FINANCE COMMITTEE MEMBERS We are still looking for more finance committee members, as well as a treasurer to work with our bookkeeper and finance committee. The treasurer reviews the monthly finance reports, makes recommendations to the vestry along with the finance committee, and, as needed, interacts with the priest and bookkeeper to ensure our accounting procedures and budget are on track. It's a reasonable commitment, and if you simply want to find out more about it, please contact Astrid or Paul Curran ([email protected]).
THE "EVERYTHING ROTA" The rota through December is still in progress, but a draft is available HERE. The rota will be finished next week when our new administrator starts.
