THIS SUNDAY AT ST. NICK'S
The Seventh Sunday of Easter
May 13, 2018
Services are at 9am & 10am
THIS SATURDAY, MAY 12TH The Blessing of the Fields at Obercreek, the USDA Certified Organic Farm owned by our own Alex Reese and Alison Spear. We'll gather at the back of the farm, near the brewery, at 59 Marlorville Rd., Wappingers Falls, NY, 12590, on Saturday, May 12th at 3p. The blessing of the fields in an old practice that dates back to 5th century France. It is a form of intercessory prayer, said during Rogation Days, during which we ask for God's blessing to be upon the farm and its harvest. To learn more about this practice in the context of our Episcopal/Anglican tradition, click here or here. And be sure to check out Obercreek Farm! A special thank you to Alex and Alison for letting us come and visit.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Easter blessings to you, Mtr. Leigh
THIS SUNDAY IS EPISCOPAL CHARITIES SUNDAY We will be collecting donations to help support the many feeding programs in the Diocese of New York including our own local food pantry at Zion Church. Some of you got your envelopes last week and place them in the collection plate. Those of you who would like to give and haven't gotten an envelope yet can pick one up in the narthex.
HAMLET TAG SALE The New Hamburg Tag Sale - June 9 - We’ve been invited to sell food and drink the day of the sale. Mtr. Leigh is looking for help for this event. If you are willing to shop for supplies, grill burgers or hotdogs, bake in advance, or sit a shift during the day selling these things, please contact Mtr. Leigh ASAP. We appreciate any help you can provide.
CHURCH FAIR ANNOUNCEMENT The St. Nick’s Church Fair, which has been masterfully led by Mary Hornbeck for many years, will be re-imagined in 2018. We are so grateful for Mary’s leadership but understand that everyone needs a break sometime. She is handing over the reins to new leadership for the event with her blessing. Mtr. Leigh needs help from the parish to make this event work. If you’d be interested in being a part of the re-visioning process, please let us know.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2018 This year's Vacation Bible School, "Camp Moose on the Loose," will be held the last week in June: Monday through Friday, June 25-29 - the first week of the school vacation and before many camps begin. This year, we will combine with the VBS at Zion Church. The program runs from 9:00-12:00 each day. There are classes for ages 4-12, and opportunities for volunteering for teenagers and adults. Every day includes Bible story, crafts, science, games, singing, snacks, and plenty of fun. On Friday, June 29, we will have a potluck supper and open house at Zion, with entertainment by the children. Everyone in the congregation is invited. Registration forms will be available in the narthex this Sunday.
COFFEE HOUR is a great time for fellowship! Join us downstairs after the 10am service for a “cup of joe” and a snack. Thinking about hosting? The new sign-up sheet is HERE, there are lots of available slots so please consider signing up. We like to keep it simple so Munchkins, cheese and crackers, or even some veggies would do. 😊
