THIS SUNDAY AT ST. NICK'S
Fourth Sunday after Pentecost
July 7, 2019
Services are at 9am & 10am
An Independence Day Prayer
O God, mightily we pray for wisdom, courage, and strength to serve thee and this nation faithfully in the days that lie ahead. Remind us of our duty to promote the general welfare, to secure the blessings of liberty for all, to see to it that justice and compassion reign from sea to shining sea, and that the bountiful resources of a favored land are not only thankfully received but also gladly shared with the whole human family.
We know, O God, that this vision of America has never been fully realized, but it has never been abandoned. Remind us that it has been significant to the rest of the world, where echoes and adaptations of it are seen in the revolutions and the constitutions of many nations; it has been a magnet to our own people, charming them away from slavery and sweatshops, chain gangs and lynch mobs, toward broader opportunity, deeper compassion, fuller equality, and greater justice for all. O God, grant wisdom and courage for the living of these days.
Hear too our prayer for those in this congregation and the globe around who are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity; may they feel thine everlasting arms. O God, bless this congregation. Bless our worship.... May thy Holy Spirit be like penetrating oil to loosen the rusted hinges of our hearts, so that we swing wide the doors to thee and to one another. Amen.
-William Sloane Coffin, Jr., 1983

SUMMER READ-A-THON
If you missed Mtr. Leigh's 6/2 sermon about the Summer Read-a-thon, never fear - you can still participate. We invite adults and children to start reading this Summer to benefit Friends of Darbonne. Our goal as a church is to raise $1500, which will sponsor 5 children for one year as their tuition to the Holy Spirit School. It's easy to do! Grab a yellow brochure and start reading. Track the books you read, and designate a dollar amount for each book or 50 page increment. Adults can sponsor themselves. Children should ask most any adult in the parish to be their sponsor. More information is in the yellow brochure. Many thanks to our Outreach Committee for their help in organizing the Read-a-thon year after year.
SAVE THE DATE for the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Mtr. Leigh's ordination to the priesthood, which will be on 8/25. We will have one service that Sunday at 10am.
LITURGY CHANGE A heads up that our liturgy for July & August will be from Enriching Our Worship, a supplement to the Book of Common Prayer.
NURSERY AVAILABLE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS AT THE 10AM SERVICE Nursery care is available to our church family. Our nursery worker, Kim Steuber, will be downstairs at 9:30a in our "pop up" nursery for care during the 10am service.
