ADULT EDUCATION THIS SUNDAY JANUARY 18 Stick around after the 10 am service THIS Sunday as Astrid and Kristin Catalano, undertaker at the local funeral home in Wappingers Falls, discuss - and perhaps debate a bit - what makes a "good funeral." Please come take part and share your thoughts - all are welcome! Runs 11:15 - noon.
ANNUAL ECUMENICAL MARTIN LUTHER KING JR SERVICE THIS SUNDAY AT 4 PM Celebrate Martin Luther King weekend in a meaningful, inspiring way by heading to the annual MLK service on Sunday January 18 at 4 pm Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. This is really a community highlight, always thought-provoking and up lifting.
CHILDCARE AT ANNUAL MEETING Professional childcare will be available during our annual meeting on January 25th, starting at 11 am in the undercroft. Katie Graves-Abe, mom of Oliver and Lucie, will be providing substantial snacks, and we'll have games and a video to show.
PARISH ANNUAL MEETING & POTLUCK JANUARY 25 AT THE YACHT CLUB Our annual meeting is in just over a week! We'll discuss the past and upcoming year and various matters of church "business" - our budget, our new and off-going vestry members, our capital campaign survey results, preparation for the bishop's visitation in March, and so on. All are encouraged to be there, even if you just started attending St. Nick's. Potluck sign up sheets will be circulated in church one last Sunday - this week!
BUY TICKETS THIS SUNDAY: PARISH FUNDRAISER LUNCH FEBRUARY 8 AT OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE Click here for a personal message from Jack Devine, our coordinator, and otherwise plan to buy tickets for it this Sunday and next.
MONTHLY BOOK GROUP CONTINUES WEDS JANUARY 28 Our book group for winter will meet on the LAST Weds of each month, January - March, at 7:00 pm in the undercroft. This month's book: "Citizen: An American Lyric" by Claudia Rankine (January 28), which one reviewer called "one of the best books I've ever wanted not to read."
ADULT CONFIRMATION INFORMATIONAL MEETING IN PREPARATION FOR BISHOP'S VISIT ON SUNDAY FEBRUARY 1 The suffragan bishop of New York, Alan Shin, is visiting St. Nick's on Sunday March 22, and we are looking to gather a group of adults wishing to be confirmed in the Episcopal Church. You'll be in good company: several of our vestry members are joining the ranks of the about-to-be-confirmed. To prepare, we will be having a brief informational meeting after the 10 am service on Sunday, February 1.
ALSO LOOKING AHEAD: MARDIS GRAS PANCAKE SUPPER: NEED VOLUNTEER HELP Shrove Tuesday is coming up on February 17, and we are looking for volunteers to help set up, cook and clean. The sign-up sheet will be distributed in church starting February 1. Meantime, mark your calendars!
SOME LEISURE READING FOR YOU! RESULTS OF OUR PARISH SURVEY If you want to read all or part of the 33-page report in advance of our annual meeting, it is available to everyone HERE. The vestry will announce at the annual meeting what they, based on the survey results and comments, deemed to be the priorities of a possible campaign.
