Hello Parishioners - Remember this Sunday is Episcopal Charities Sunday, when we take up a collection for feeding programs around the diocese, including our very own Zion Food Pantry. Put a few extra dollars in your pockets before you come to church! Also, a big welcome to my friend and colleague Father Derek Darves-Bornoz, who will be subbing for me this weekend. And finally, to all our moms out there, a very happy Mother's Day! -Astrid
EPISCOPAL CHARITIES SUNDAY IS MAY 11 Every year we join churches throughout the diocese to raise money and awareness for Episcopal Charities of New York. The proceeds from the collection we take on that day will go directly toward feeding programs in the diocese.
FINAL UNDERCROFT WINE AND DESIGN MEETING THIS COMING MONDAY MAY 12 7 PM This week's meeting will include Jay Hibbs, local architect, who will be presenting us with two drawings for a possible undercroft expansion. Jay has done work on Zion Church, Locust Grove, and many, many historic buildings in our area.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: SAVE THE DATE! This year's vacation bible school is AUGUST 11-15, and our theme is Five Stories from Luke's Gospel. Geared toward ages 4-12. Help us spread the word!
WANT TO RECEIVE THE EPISCOPAL NEW YORKER? The quarterly diocesan newspaper is free and available to anyone who wants to receive it. Just send your request to Cara, and she will send along your mailing address to the Episcopal New Yorker office.
VESTRY MEETING NEXT WEDNESDAY MAY 14 AT 7:30 PM TIf you ever have an issue you would like addressed at a vestry meeting, please talk to Paul Curran or Justin Johnson, our
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: TWO "MOSTLY EMAIL" COMMITTEES We need volunteers in two areas: education and stewardship. These will be "get-it-done" committees, and most - maybe all - of the work for these groups can be accomplished by email. The education committee will work with Astrid to come up with ideas for occasional after-church classes and/or series. The stewardship committee's main task will be to come up with professional but creative ways to present our financial needs and goals for our fall stewardship campaign (bearing in mind "stewardship" can be defined more broadly than just the fall financial campaign, if the committee wishes). If you are interested in learning more and/or joining one of these groups, please contact Astrid right away by replying to this email. Thank you!
COFFEE HOURS: SIGN UP HERE OR AT THE CHURCH You can sign up at the link above, or in the undercroft. Thank you!
PARISH BIBLE STUDY ON THE BOOK OF ACTS RUNS EVERY TUESDAY AT ZION CHURCH Our weekly Bible studies run every week in the library of Zion Church, Wappingers Falls, 7:30 - 8:30 PM. Join any time! Come learn all about this very interesting book of our Bible, which contains a lot of great early church history. ALSO, remember there is a morning Bible study at Zion Church, led by Mother Magdalene, at 10:30 am (service beforehand at 9:30).
REMEMBER THE FOOD PANTRY Make it a goal for the new year to buy one item for the food pantry every time you go to the grocery store. Your donations of food are taken to the Zion food pantry each week. As the before meal grace in the Book of Common Prayer says, "Keep us mindful of the needs of those with less."
ROTA THROUGH JUNE The rota for readers, servers, and altar guild can be found HERE. If you see anything that needs to be changed, please email Cara at [email protected].
