HELLO PARENTS AND TEACHERS
This Sunday continues the kids 8 weeks with the creation story, with a lesson on "Day 2" of creation, when God created the waters and skies. The kids will keep discussing what it means to take care of God's creation, and will read a children's book about the environmentalist Rachel Carson's work creating cleaner oceans and skies. The teachers for this week are ALEX, MARIA & NEEDED (teachers, please email the group if you can cover). Have a good weekend, and see you Sunday! - Astrid
REMEMBER THE BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS IS SUNDAY OCTOBER 4
Round up your pets for their annual blessing! Service takes place in the church yard at 10 am.
SILENT AUCTION THIS SATURDAY (OK, WE'LL LET YOU STILL BUY TICKETS...BUT ONLY FIVE LEFT) On the fence? Join us this year! This is a fun event with lots of good items - wine, gift certificates to restaurants and salons, car detailing (which every parent needs), kids items ... even a tattoo! You can buy ticketsthrough our website or at the door, but there are only FIVE left - seriously. So do it quickly! Auction is at Longobardi's restaurant in Wappingers, starting at 5:30 pm.
SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER MEETING AFTER CHURCH THIS SUNDAY
Teachers: if you're able to stick around for about 20 minutes immediately following the 10 am service (we'll meet upstairs), that would be great. We'll go over anything we need to cover for the new year, plus get some of your input on anything we might want to improve on or change.
NEW!!! "CONNECT" EPISCOPAL YOUTH GROUP FOR TEENS
The clergy of the area Episcopal churches have banded together to start this group for our teens. It will meet the last Sunday of the month, 2-4 pm, and activities include community service through the Lunch Box of the city of Poughkeepsie, exploring the region, meeting new people, looking at the world through an Episcopal lens. If any kids from St. Nick's want to go, please let Mother Storm know so she can be there that week. The first meeting will be at St. Paul's in Poughkeepsie and is THIS SUNDAY September 27.
HAITI READ-A-THON - THANK YOU
to our 2015 Read-a-Thon readers, who raised almost $2000.00 to help fund scholarships for school kids at the Episcopal school in Darbonne, Haiti!
(STILL) LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH ADVENT WREATH MAKING ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 22 & 29
I know it seems far off ... but it won't! If anyone is willing to help out with making Advent wreaths, I'd love to devote two Sundays to this and maybe put together something nice. Ideas are all over the web, some good ones on Pinterest if you'd like to look around before deciding whether to commit. If you're interested, please let me (Astrid) know.
LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO COORDINATE A SIMPLE CHRISTMAS EVE PAGEANT
In fact, "pageant" may be too grandiose. I'd love for the kids to possibly sing an old French Christmas carol called "The Friendly Beasts," and I'm thinking we could do something super simple, with 2-3 rehearsals during Sunday school slots in December. Please contact me if you might be interested and willing to help! Here's the song on video (there are lots of other examples on youtube).
SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER SCHEDULE IS AVAILABLE Teachers, take a look at this schedule and let me (Astrid) know if you need any changes. Remember, too, all the teachers' email addresses are there, in case you ever need to find your own sub last minute (which you're welcome and encouraged to do!).
