Hi parents & teachers - this Sunday is the annual Feast of St. Nicholas, our patron saint, with a visit from the good bishop himself! Remind your kids who the "real" Santa Claus is in this fun, meaningful service.
And needless to say, there will be no Sunday school during the 10 am service, though the nursery WILL be open, as usual.
Remember, too, that immediately after the St. Nicholas service, I will be leading a Kids and Communion Class. This is for kids who have been receiving Communion and kids who are preparing to. We'll discuss (in kid friendly terms) why we receive Communion, what it means, and the "proper" way to receive in our tradition. Note: childcare will be available for the younger kids.
And finally, as I mentioned last week, the priests from the Episcopal Church in Millbrook and Highland Falls are planning a Civil Rights Pilgrimage for next August (the second week of August) for high schoolers in their parishes, and we've been invited to participate.HERE is a flyer from last year's trip, which I heard very good reports about. Please let me know if your child may be interested. I'd like to send a couple kids and adults from St. Nick's.
This pilgrimage is especially important with all the news from Ferguson and now Staten Island, which I know has been on our minds. Here is a helpful letter our bishop wrote about it, and I also found this piece from Charles Blow of the Times really good and worth a read, if you haven't yet seen it.
Have a great weekend, and look forward to seeing everyone Sunday!
